Most days I record with a Sony PCM-A10 - it’s small (easily fits in the inside pocket of a jacket), it boots up quickly, and more importantly, it usually does a decent enough job for this purpose.
However… things haven’t sounded right for a couple of weeks, and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing differently while recording or otherwise, but wasn’t happy with the sound no matter how I eqed.
Last night I had an epiphany and ran a couple of recordings through a spectrograph, And there they were, these two:
I went back through the archive and these are on all of the recordings made with the internal mics - I can still use it with external mics, but that sort of negates the best features of the A10, size and readiness. So until I figure out what to do about this and how to replace my everyday rig, hang in there - our scheduled programming will resume momentarily.
