Minster Marshes 1745554320

The weather is finally good enough to go out and listen to the dawn chorus.

This was my first dawn chorus outing this year. I headed out to the Minster water treatment plant, and then picked a spot where the water treatment canal meets the river Stour - on one side of the small concrete bridge you have a water body that is completely dead (the canal coming from the plant), and on the other you start hearing the odd insect. A few feet ahead the Stour is very much alive (but that’s a subject for another day).

Besides all the birds, insects, sheep, and dogs, as dawn turns into day you start noticing the human made sounds growing. What started as the background hum of the roads nearby is now full of trains and planes as well. As the birds subside, the electricity noise coming from the high power cables on the other side of the Stour becomes evident and almost overpowers the birdsong.

The air was very quiet as I walked from the plant to the canal, but when I finished setting up and pressed record the dawn chorus was in full swing. I am quite happy with how the recording turned out - just need to be 15 minutes earlier next time.
